No Cup Run for Dromore
08 Jun 2011

It wasn't to be for Dromore in the Irish Cup this year, falling 4-2 at home to Cliftonville. After last years run to the semi-final Dromore had hoped they could make a similar progress this season but it wasn't to be after Cliftonville beat them for the second time in a matter of weeks.

Cliftonville were 3 up inside 15 minutes with the first coming only a few minutes into the game, a cross came in which found the only Cliftonville player in the box who easily finished from 10 yards out. The second was a freak goal as after 10 minutes Cliftonville scored directly from a corner, the ball dropping just under the crossbar.

Dromore had a chance between their second and third as Laura Magowan got into a one-on-one position but fluffed her chance when through. Cliftonvilles third came from another corner as the ball dropped 6 yards out and was tapped in by ex player Lauren Gibson.

Cliftonville should have been 4 up after 25 minutes as one of their players found themselves free, just a few yards out but somehow managed to hit the crossbar with the goal at her mercy.

Dromore pulled one back minutes later as Kerry Taggart was brought down in the area. Tracy Orr stepped up and slotted it into the bottom corner to get Dromore back into the game.

Just after half time Dromore almost pulled another back. A cross-cum-shot from a free kick narrowly missed the far post but it wasn't long before Dromore did their second as an Amy-Louise free kick was tapped in by Kerry Taggart from only a few yards out.

Deborah Douglas almost equalised for Dromore as her shot from wide hit the side netting. A Tracy free kick from 25 yards out was then well saved by the Cliftonville keeper.

Cliftonville almost wrapped it up only for them to mishit when well placed, giving Dromore the chance to clear. They did get their fourth goal with 5 minutes left to all but end the tie. They won a free just inside their half which was launched into the box and headed in.

Dromore nearly got a third just before full time as a corner was cleared off the line twice but it wasn't to be for them this year. The focus gets back to league action with a double header against Limavady coming up and Dromore will be aiming for maximum points to help move them back up the table.
