Dromore 4 - 0 Limavady
Dromore advanced to the semi final of the League Cup after a convincing 4-0 win over Limavady. Deborah Douglas led the way with a brace, whilst Laura Magowan got her first goal of the season and Rebekah Maguire got the 4th on her debut.
The match itself was a repeat of the previous league meetings with Dromore dominating from start to finish. The first opportunity came from a back pass as the keeper picked it up giving Dromore an indirect free kick just inside the area. It was played to the left but Debbie Barry took a touch allowing the defence to get out and get a block in.
25 minutes in Deborah Douglas almost opened the scoring with what is becoming a bit of a trademark by her as she crossed in from the right but was denied a goal courtesy of the crossbar.
Limavady in similar fashion to previous matches got the occasional opportunity and Michelle Stevens escaped a near scare as a 35 yard free kick which looked to be going wide came back off her post.
Dromore continued to pressurise but where unable to convert their chances, after Deborah Douglas was just denied by a block from the keeper, Limavady caught Dromore on the break but Michelle pulled out a great save to keep the scores at 0-0 going into half time.
Dromore continued the second half as the first went. Dromore finally got a bit of luck as a long ball upfield broke to Laura Magowan whose shot, although blocked by the keeper spun into the net to give Dromore a deserved lead.
In a frantic few minutes Limavady first almost equalised but once more were denied by the post, before Dromore won a free kick just outside the area from which Amy-Louise Graham was denied by a finger tip save.
Deborah Douglas made no mistake with her next chance as she broke down the right before her cross-cum-shot nestled into the far corner of the net to put Dromore two up.
Moments later Deborah got her second as a through ball to Laura Magowan was blocked by the keeper but fell nicely to Deborah who finished from only a few yards out.
In what was a bizarre moment the Limavady centre back was giving her marching orders. Kerry broke through after a long pass upfield but was denied her goal scoring opportunity as the defender held onto her jersey with both hands before dragging her to the ground.
With just minutes left Rebekah Maguire made it a debut to remember as Amy-Louise Graham played a one-two with Laura Magowan before crossing in to the back post leaving Rebekah for a simple tap in.
In what was a fine performance by the Dromore team, they will hope for a favourable draw in the next round to give them a real chance of a cup final and also give them a boost for their home fixture to Cliftonville in the coming week.
